Being A SMART Teacher Syllabus




About the Training:

The training becoming a SMART Teacher is a 5 day training that will building to making interactive activities that students can explore and the teachers can implement in their classroom. These interactive pages will be built to help support teachers to enhance or take lessons to a higher level. Having SMART boards in all schools and SMART tables in some schools teachers need to know how to use the SMART Notebook to help support their teaching within Charles County.

Audience:

The audience for this training should be for teachers in Charles County Public Schools that work with students from Pre-k to 1st grade. This could even be used for students in the 3's program since early childhood is the main focus of this training.

Pre-Requisite Knowledge Required:

The teachers should have the basic knowledge of the following technologies:
  • Basic functions of SMART Notebook
  • Basic computer skills (saving, retrieving, and finding information through the Internet and their computer)
  • Know the skills and themes for their grade level (knowing their curriculum)

Materials Needed:

  • PC or Lap top
  • SMART Notebook already installed on PC or Lap Top (can use free trial if not already on the computer being used)
  • Zip Drive (will be given to all teachers but must be brought to all days)

Workshop Goals/Objectives:

After teachers complete this workshop they will be able to:
  • Create an interactive calendar to use in their morning routine.
  • Create an interactive activity page that students can use during the day.
  • Create a couple interactive pages that can be transferred to the SMART table.

Schedule and Outline of Days:

Day 1: Educational websites

  • Talk about the importance of interactive educational websites
  • Talk about what makes a good interactive educational website
  • Create a list of skills and themes that websites could enhance
  • Finding links to educational websites that teachers have explored and found to be beneficial as well as pictures that would match to the websites

Day 2: Creating Calendar

  • Talk about SMART board and what it has to offer
  • Talk about the importance of a calendar and why it is important for the classroom
  • Show some examples of different grade level calendars to see different skills that could be practiced every day in the morning.
  • Create a list of skills that they want to practice every day in the morning in their calendar

Day 3: Creating Activity Page and SMART Table Files

  • Continue working on SMART board and showing more of the advance features it has to offer
  • Show how to create a SMART file and transfer it to the SMART table
  • Show examples of activity pages for students to use
  • Show how to create an activity page, how to add the pictures collected onto the page and link them to the websites they are matched to

Day 4: Active Day

  • Teachers will create a multi-page calendar with skills they would want to practice every day
  • Teachers will create an activity page with links to the educational websites they have found
  • Teachers will create 3-5 different SMART files to be able to transfer to the SMART table to implement within their classroom

Day 5: Sharing Day

  • Teachers will share their activity pages, calendars, and SMART files with other teachers within their grade level
  • Give teachers constructive advice about their pages they created and how to make it stronger
  • Teachers will be given time to update or change anything they want to change to their pages to make it stronger with the advice given by their peers
